Serger

Should I get a mate for my sewing machine?

Like I said earlier -- my goal is to learn to make items like this before the end of the year. Do you think a serger will get me there any faster?

hmm, it would make things easier, but it is a big purchase. you could always try french seaming the sides and a simple zigzag on the arms at first. just a thought.

That was one of my FAVORITE features in the College of Textiles labs... I would love to have one. SO strong and so useful.

My Mom lives by her serger. i have definitely gone all the way thome to her house to use it. It really is a gret tool but only if you are going to be doign a lot of sewing. ;)

Sergers yield such nicely finished seams, which totally helps your garment last in the long run (and look/feel more professional)... if you've got the time/money/space I think it's worth buying!

Buy it buy it! Sergers are the best. And you could TOTALLY make those items. I only started sewing a year ago. Take a few classes to get you started and give you the confidence to try things on your own. Sergers give you that awesome professional looking finish and are worth the investment. Do your research - great reviews on patternreview.com are available.

I am still waiting for my serger, Jin is trying to track one down for a very belated xmas present! But I am glad that you say it is worth it.
Even though this studio is in the basement, it is absolutely perfect!!
