Savannah Thunderstorms

One of my favorite things about Savannah is thunderstorms. Though they haven't happened enough lately (it's been hot!!), I love opening the front door and watching how intense the rain falls through the trees. Two pics I grabbed from our last downpour...

Looks like you've got a great front porch to watch the storms from!

Having grown up in Alabama, I love these kinds of thunderstorms too. It's one of the things I really miss about living in the south. Your photos really capture them well.

Wow, what great photos! I love thunderstorms, too but we don't get very many here in the UK. The weather is very hot and humid at the moment though so I'm hoping for a big one soon (even though they scare my cat).

I love this about New Orleans, as well. Although, not so much when I get caught in one, wind up completely soaked, and then have to sit in an air-conditioned room to work. But from my screened porch, they are lovely.

My husband and I are coming to Savannah for a short vacation July 29 - Aug.2! These photos just made me even more excited about the trip. Not sure what we'll be doing while we're there, but I think it's going to be fun.

I love the light that comes through in both of the photos - Looking at them makes you feel like you are are sitting on the porch in the midst of the storm!

I love the thunderstorms too! However, as a Savannah native, I can recall many of times where I have actually prayed we didn't have one of those storms - like for my outdoor college graduation (okay, it was in Statesboro) or for many St. Patrick's Days here.

Have you been here for a hurricane evacuation?

I'm so jealous!! I LOVE Savannah!!! I don't know if they have it any more, but I participated in a program at SCAD called Rising Stars back in 2001. It was a summer pre-college program for students going from their junior to senior year of high school. I spent 5 weeks in Savannah from early July to mid-August, and it was an amazing experience. I wanted to go back for college, but I just couldn't afford it. But I have been back once since, just to visit, and Savannah will forever be my favorite vacation spot!!!

Oh, these are beautiful shots. I know what you mean about the downpours. I used to love North Florida's quick downpours, daily, during the summer!

Oh you live on a lovely street! I enjoy riding up and down those downtown streets just past the squares to see all the houses!
We've not had any thunderstorms here since last week. No real rain either. Maybe soon.

a thunderstorm's definitely not the same in new york, without the trees and porches. your photos are fantastic, whitney! really capture the feeling of a thunderstorm in such a pretty way.

I love the lighting on the photo on the right- those are beautiful. We just moved to Charlotte and I'm getting used to the humidity in the south. When we were living in NZ, it rained, but never there was not thunder or lightining... so now that we are back, I too, love watching the rain, especially summer storms

GREAT pics! I love the lighting in both of them...

i grew up on the east coast and now live in san francisco. i miss those unapologetic thunderstorms so much. the kind that make you jump with flashes of lightening that scatter across the sky. so cool! living in sf i also miss a good ol' rain shower...we rarely see any this time of year. the smell after a good spring/summer shower is just awesome.

btw, i don't think i've commented here before. very cute. thanks for sharing!
