Gloria Sews & Etsy Shop

Over the past month, we've been stationed in NC with our families in transition to our impending move north. You might remember that my mom opened a fabric shop in my hometown a few months ago. I've been fortunate enough to spend my days lately working on a few things at her shop, Gloria Sews. She's been adding inventory, working on a few custom wedding gowns for clients, and other typical shop things -- and I've just been there to lend extra hands and work on a few of my own projects.

We created a dressing room space (pictured above) for her shop out of an original wood door of the downtown building that she's located in and a curtain I made from a few of the fabrics she sells in her shop. The floral print in the curtain is an Amy Butler fabric that I love and is pieced together with a few scrap pieces she had.

Remember the Sweet Dress Recipe book I was super excited to get a few weeks ago? I finally had the time to make my first dress (pictured above) with a gorgeous purple plaid fabric I helped her pick out to sell in the shop. Although the pattern book is in japanese, everything went pretty smoothly. The hardest part it tracing the pattern out, ALL of the patterns are on one sheet of paper...lines crossing everywhere! See more photos on my flickr

And LASTLY, I helped my mom open up an etsy shop to sell her fabric, notions, and other creations online. So be sure to check it out if your in the market for some good quality fabric. She sells everything from Amy Butler to Batiks with more coming. Below are a few of things she has in her etsy shop...

Your mom's store is so lovely and that dress is adorable! I am also working on a couple of pieces from japanese sewing books, they are the best (i agree about the annoying tracing though).

How fabulous! If she ever wants to do an email newsletter for her customers/clients, just let me know! I'd be happy to get her on her way :-)

PS - Typo on the Aprons blog (the first you see) on the website - sale vs. sell! Just wanted to send a heads up :-)

Hope all is going fabulously! Miss seeing you!

Oh, congratulations to you and your mom! Any idea where I can find the fabric in the top curtain? Or are those stripes sewn together? Love it!

When I move into my new place, I am commissioning you to make me some curtains.

January 13, 2010 | Unregistered Commenterjenny w

Those curtains are FABULOUS! Must make those curtains. Any advice from your mom on how much yardage it would take per panel??

January 14, 2010 | Unregistered CommenterBrooke

Hi Brooke! This particular curtain is fairly wide to cover the whole dressing room. But I would say for a standard size curtain that you would be safe with 1.5 yards for one panel. Hope this helps :)

I want one!

Love the dress! I want a good book with sewing patterns, but I'm very intimidated by the Japanese. Have you found it easy to understand?
