A Dining Space
In our little house that we're renting in North Carling this summer, we have something that we've never had before...a dining room. Astonishing, right? Of course it's not that strange to be without one in NYC, but even when we were stationed in Savannah, Ga and Chapel Hill, NC -- still, no dining room. You could imagine that I'm a tad bit excited to have a more normal dining experience at home and I've been on the hunt to create that room.
Here are a few things that have peeked my interest but I'm afraid it is leaning a little too modern. The hub and I really try to blend the old with the new when we decorate, so I'm a little stuck on which direction to go in. Any thoughts out there on blending styles?

1- rug (west elm) 2- wire chair (modernica) 3 - wood table (ikea) 4- pendant (west elm) 5 - salt/pepper (terrain)

Bentwood chairs.
That is all.
My new house has a lovely dining room and we've just bought a dining table and chairs. We really want a pendant light, the light fitting you've featured above looks lovely! I'm not sure about how to blend old & new really...we have a newish dining table and chairs but we're going to paint the chairs so they are quite mix-matchy and we also have a 70s sideboard to go in the dining room.
Fun! Those chairs are my favorite for dining.
oh i love the rug! it is like 50's colors so old and new!! my fave!
bentwood chairs...good call.
I love that table! And those salt and pepper holders. You have some good ideas lady!!

Love those salt and pepper shakers. The type reminds me of Tim Burton/Nightmare Before Christmas...
I was pretty excited to see that rug featured since we just had it delivered for our dining room. I can't wait to see how it looks. Loving the other items you chose as well, especially the pendant.
I think you've got to choose a rustic looking table. The other elements have such a modern remake feel to them you need a center piece that balances that out. Some vintage all art and I think you've got a room!
Yay, how exciting! I can't wait to have a dining room/area some day and have dreamed up what I will do when I have one. I too like the mix of modern and old. I love your picks! Maybe you could try the mix of a bench on one side and chairs on the other - that might look a little less modern?
oh THAT is exciting!! I have the opposite problem, we use our one extra room as a dinning area and miss having a living room space!
have fun in that new dinning area!!
