DIY Skinny Jeans

I saw this DIY skinny jeans tutorial on Freshly Picked and knew I had to try it out. I had the perfect pair of boot-cut jeans by Paper Denim & Cloth that I couldn't part with but didn't necessarily enjoy the cut. I even tried to hem them at one point and it went terribly wrong. So, I gave this technique a go and was so pleased with the results.

Recycled T-Straps

I couldn't resist posting this diy project. Allison of Gimmeakiss took a pair of her old high-heel tap shoes from high school and turned them into real, wearable shoes. I'm a sucker for t-straps and tights.

Storage

Although I would love to have a huge type cabinet like the one above, I believe I would find myself using it more like Poppalina than for metal type.[Images: all from poppalina]

Letterpress Stand

My fiance has been playing the role of "handyman" by creating a stand for our letterpress, from scratch! Now we have the perfect letterpress corner in our little apartment.

Before & After: Craft Table

My mom has become a personal seamstress during all of this wedding planning! Not only is she creating my dress, she is creating my 8 bridesmaid dresses, as well as my matron of honor's (aka my cousin) wedding dress. With all of this fabric and no place to cut it, it was only a matter of time before she got herself an appropriate table. She stumbled across a 4ftx8ft sewing table at a local fabric shop and bought it right away. She has spent the past few days repainting it and recovering the "strawberry shortcake" covered top. Doesn't it look great?? I am jealous!
Oh and her other "project", introducing the new puppy, Molly, into their home :)

Big Blue

We spent the weekend cleaning up our C&P Pilot Letterpress. After scanning the aisles of paint, we decided to go with bright blue, can't you tell? :) I just wanted to share the before & after pictures with you, just to show you how far a little tender-love-care can go!

Before & After

We picked up another scrap item at the university surplus this week, an old type-writer table. Didn't Dustin do a fabulous job of cleaning and repainting it?!? I've already found a way to pile things up on it, whoops!

Gocco?

After recommending Gocco to a friend who was interested in printing on a smaller scale, I thought to myself, what the heck is this thing? I have found bits and pieces about Gocco in the blog-o-sphere and of course through etsy, but when I sat down to really understand how this thing worked, I found a great info/tutorial on The Small Object that I felt really answered my questions.

Essentially Gocco is a quick and simple, portable, color printing system. It's a combination between rubber stamps and screen printing, and is an inexpensive solution to at-home printing.

Check out a few products that were created using a Gocco:

Is that a rhino?

Animals heads mounted on walls sort of creep me out. However, when I saw this in my Daily Candy email this morning, I just had to share. How clever (even though it still kinda creeps me out)! This is a DIY project for $14 that gives a more humane effect :-)

Dresses & Veils

A little wedding update! So I have been scanning bridal magazines/websites trying to decide on the perfect attire for my big day. I have narrowed it down to: nothing strapless and nothing with poof. If you have ever gone dress shopping though, that is about all you see. However, with the help of my mother, I believe I have decided to make my own dress! This may sound crazy to some but when you have sewers in the family, the sky is the limit!

Good news is that my mom stumbled across a dress form. She was at the mall when she noticed that a store was closing and they had all of their store furniture on sale! She found my perfect size and walked away with a $25 form, what a deal! Dress forms are probably one of the creepiest things you could have (when you turn that corner into a dark room and see a figure by the window...ahh!).
I have also decided against a traditional veil. It is just not something I ever thought about wearing when I pictured my wedding ceremony...SO!...I am inspired to create a birdcage, french-netted veil. Sound cool, huh? This type of veil is really becoming popular again so hopefully I can find some great resources out their on how to construct it. The veils below are from Something Bold. Love it!
