Blue Shirt.

Right before I posted my previous entry about navy -- my mom, coincidentally, stuck two blue fabrics in the mail to me as a surprise. I've been so busy with school, I haven't had much of a chance to sew anything for myself lately so I used this past week to make myself a navy spring shirt. It could use a few tweeks but I'm pretty happy with the outcome.

If you are interested in the fabrics, they are for sale here.

Build-a-Party Skirt

I've decided to start making my party skirt in a more affordable, 100% cotton fabric. But because there is only one of me and so many different sizes to make, I'm now taking orders with the following options:

a) Fabric Colors: blue, plum, and black

The fabric is a pre-washed 100% cotton making it soft enough for winter and light enough for summer. It will be fully gathered at the waist with the capability of twirling :) Most importantly, it will have pockets!

b) Pom Applique

There are two options for the decorative pom: same color pinwheel poms or contrasting frayed edge poms.

c) Size

The sizing has been measured to be worn as waist level. Since it is a fully gathered skirt, the waist is the only specific fit. All skirts measure approximately 19inches from top of waistband to bottom of hem.

Pricing: All skirts are made to order and will sale for $72 w/ free shipping.

Holidays: If you'd like to have your skirt in time for the holidays, last day to order is Dec 12th to allow for production and shipping.

If you are interested, feel free to contact me through my blog or through etsy

Skirts, Skirts, Skirts!

Last year I made this dress. I never quite enjoyed the fit of it and yesterday while I was going through my closet, I got the idea to re-fashion it. I cut off the top of the dress, serged a rolled hem on the top raw edge, and added a black cotton band of fabric at the bottom. Ta-da! It's terribly cute but as I assessed the mound of skirts I already have, I decided that I could stand to part with it and have decided to sell it in my shop.

Shop Update: Black Seer-Sucker Skirt

It's a size small with an elastic waste -- the main fabric is a black/white seer-sucker weave and like I said, the black section is a cotton. It's super comfy and I could see it going easily between seasons. Check it out here.

Shop Update: Black Seer-Sucker Skirt

I never mentioned the pleated denim skirt I added to my shop awhile back. It's made with a stretch denim and has a pintucked pleated detail on the front. It also zips from behind and is a size 2. Check it out here.

And then I have one more Party Skirt in a size 6 at sale price. Check it out here.

A Man's Shirt

I have been saying for months I would attempt to make the hub a collared-shirt and this weekend I finally did! It was so nice to be able to fit someone besides myself -- I'm pretty happy with the results and so is the hub. I used the Simplicity 5366 pattern, and by the way, just like the men's section is smaller in retail stores so is the sewing pattern section.

Sewing Re-do

Remember this shirt?

It was great while it lasted -- I accidentally stained it with chemicals while working in the darkroom. Terrible, I know. I need to wear a scuba suit while I work in there!

SOOOooo...I decided to remake it. I had a stack of this tic-tac-toe fabric I had not found a use for yet and went with it. I paired it with a few wooden buttons to offset the tiny pattern.

Quick commercial break!

A small interruption from my month long A-Z series to bring you a few photographs I've captured lately..

I'm in the midst a large format photography course (the big cameras that you use a black cloth to cover your head with) and have been experimenting with this beast. We have a love/hate relationship, but all and all it's been a great experience. A few shots...

The hub and I shot a beautiful Savannah wedding this past weekend. There ceremony was at the Whitefield Chapel at the Bethesda School for Boys (where Ryan Adams and Mandy Moore married a couple of months ago) -- it was so rustic and gorgeous! You can check out more photos here.

I'm a Sewing Machine (ha, ha)

A local fabric shop, Fabrika, was having a sale this weekend that I couldn't pass up. So I made my first attempt at creating a dress by my own pattern. After many a trial & error, I finally finished! So voila! Not too shabby...there a few things I've definitely noted in my own head to work on for next time...But I must turn the sewing machine off for a few days! My eyes are beginning to cross..

Party Skirt

I have been glued to my sewing machine for the past two days working on this little party skirt. I'm pretty pleased with the outcome -- I embellished it a bit and added a pleated hem, just a cute plum twirl skirt :)
