The Big Day Recap

I had a great time at The Big Day event this past weekend in Asheville, NC. It's not every day that I do a wedding show and its defintely not every day that I'm able to talk to so many people face to face about my work. So it was awesome to hear feedback in person. Here's a peek at my booth...

The Big Day

Look out Asheville, I'm participating in a local wedding fair that is shaping up to be pretty awesome. I'll have both my dress collection and photography goodness to check out and I'd love to meet you! So feel free to stop by my booth on March 30th at the Asheville Art Musuem. Tickets are available on The Big Day website.

Lovely Lola

Several of the dresses in my bridal collections can be made in knee, tea, and full lengths. I like giving people the flexibility and it's always fun to see a dress in a different light. Here is the oh-so popular Lola in full length... And you can see her twirling at tea-length, here.

WishPiece

I had the pleasure of collaborating with Minji of WishPiece for the 2013 photo shoot -- her work is so lovely and fit nicely with the dresses. Be sure to check out her etsy shop! Here is a photo of Caitlen in a star halo...

Oh, Darling! Lovelies

Amidst sewing away on dresses and a late summer maternity leave, I was able to continue photographing weddings with my hub this year. He deserves so much praise for going above and beyond where I wasn't able to and for picking up my slack when I needed to rest my feet..or eat :) Somehow every year we have these amazing couples reach out to us to photograph their wedding -- people who care more about a genuine, love-filled union than an elaborate affair. Which, to us, is exactly how it should be.

Here are a few of our effortlessly beautiful brides from 2012...of course you can see more of our work from this year on our Oh, Darling! blog.

The last wedding..

..until our little one arrives! I love this photo the hub captured of one of our couples...isn't her glittery hair piece just awesome? This is actually the last wedding I was able to photograph this summer and it's bittersweet -- but I'm definitely looking forward to taking some time off from the field and spending my days by the sewing machine and prepping for baby. Not much longer!

Vintage Wedding Dresses

So far this year, we've had two brides wear altered vintage wedding dresses and it is always so intresting to me to see how they're made and then changed to work for the modern bride. I have to remind myself to stop investigating the layers & seams and get back to photographing them :)

Here is Erika's off the shoulder, daisy-eyelet dress. She pretty much kept the dress in its original state.

And the lace on Mary's dress was to die for...the dress used to have sleeves but she had them taken off and added a small lace mock-cap sleeve.

Wedding Style

When I'm working on a new collection, I'm ultimately thinking about designing dresses with a definite comfort and distinct style. But with that being said, I find it so important that a bride be able to make the dress her own with accessories and flair. So let's play a little bit...here are a few ways I'd style a few of the 2012 collection...

MARCILLE
This dress has layers of delicate chiffon and a soft scooping back so it definitely leans more romantic without being overly dramatic. I paired it with a subtle jimmy choo ballet flat, crochet drop earrings by bhldn, and a delicate twigs & honey veil

ELSIE
Isn't she darling? I love the perfect touch of simple modesty in this dress paired with a delicate peter pan collar. I thought it would be great to go with neutrals for this dress, nude t-strap heels from ruche, a light-weight rose gold diamond ring from catbird, and just a little bit of pop with a deep red butter london nail polish.

BELLE
There is a sophistication about this dress that makes it feel very intimate and could really be taken in many directions. I chose to play on the existing glamourous details of its charmeuse trim and add some colorful accessories. First, adding an untamed petals rhinestone comb, followed by a silk pom-pom brooch in ice by bando, and these strapy coral heels from kate spade.

LOLA
Tea-length goodness! Another great dress you could dress-up or down, take it formal or casual...so I went all natural with this number. A gorgeous infinity gold ring by melissa joy manning, a soft pink butter london nail polish, and a rustic wildflower halo from kinfolk magazine.
